LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Five UNLV baseball players have been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District team, the organization announced on Tuesday.
JP Hefft, Carson Lane, Will Marquart, Brendan O'Sullivan and Elijah Rodriguez were recognized for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Hefft and Lane are finalists who are part of the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. Academic All-District honorees advance to the Academic All-America ballot, which first-, second and third-team Academic All-America honorees will be announced July 1.
The 2025 Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Hefft, a senior economics major, earned his second straight CSC Academic All-District honor. He Started in 51 of the 52 games he appeared in during his second season with the Scarlet & Gray. The San Clemente, California native led the Rebels in stolen bases (eight) and runs (45). He ranked third on the team and tied for 28th in the MW with a .308 batting average. Hefft sat second in MW games with 148 total plate appearances, tied for fifth in at-bats (125) and tied for sixth in hit by pitches (6). Additionally, Hefft tallied 65 hits for the second straight season, scored 45 runs (2nd on the team), recorded 12 doubles for the second consecutive season and career-highs in home runs (4) and RBI (38). Hefft closed out his senior campaign with a cumulative GPA of 3.61 and is on the UNLV's Dean's List.
Lane, a sophomore kinesiology major, was named an All-Mountain West First Team honoree in his second season with the Scarlet & Gray where he posted the second-most wins in MW action (5) and the third-most strikeouts in conference play (61). In MW action, Lane registered a 4.45 ERA in 56.2 innings after allowing 28 earned runs (30 total). The Huntington Beach, California native helped throw UNLV's first no-hitter since 2003 where he went eight innings striking out nine Fresno State batters on three walks en route to winning MW Pitcher of the Week and College Baseball Foundation (CBF) National Pitcher of the Week accolades. Lane led the Rebels with 85 strikeouts, third among MW pitchers and recorded the second-best ERA in the MW (4.23) with a 6-4 record. Lane closed out his sophomore season with a 3.66 cumulative GPA.
Marquart, a fifth-year senior data analytics major, appeared in 21 games, all in relief. He threw 34 innings of work with 42 strikeouts, 37 hits allowed, 20 runs (15 earned) and 15 walks. The Tampa, Florida native went 4-1 overall and collected one save. Marquart struck out a season-high three batters against Milwaukee (2/28) in 2.2 innings of work where he didn't allow a hit and walked one batter that resulted in his second win of the season. He struck out two or more batters in eight appearances. Marquart closed out his graduate year with a cumulative GPA of 4.00.
O'Sullivan, a senior sociology major, appeared in a career-high 47 games with 43 starts. He batted .263 with a career-high 45 hits and 13 doubles. The Pleasanton, California native had 25 RBI and scored 17 runs and was tied for second in MW games with four sacrifice flies. O'Sullivan recorded a career-high 171 at-bats, tallied 19 walks and registered 12 multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit efforts. O'Sullivan closed out his senior campaign with a 3.85 GPA and is on the UNLV's Dean's List.
Rodriguez, a senior urban studies major, played in 42 games and started 36 of them. The Hewitt, Texas native batted .306 with 44 hits including nine doubles, a triple and two home runs. He brought in 24 RBI and recorded a 1.000 fielding percentage in the outfield. Furthermore, Rodriguez posted an .802 OPS, a .424 slugging percentage and a .378 on-base percentage. He recorded at least one hit in the final 13 of his 16 games played, including eight multi-hit games and produced six multi-RBI games. Rodriguez closed out his senior campaign with a cumulative GPA of 3.59.
To be eligible for the CSC Academic All-District Team, players must carry a 3.50 cumulative GPA and be at least a sophomore in both academic and athletic standing. Graduate students need to have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA in both their undergraduate and graduate studies to be eligible, with grades from all institutions counting for transfer students. Student-athletes must also play in 90 percent of the team's games or start in at least 66 percent of contests. Pitchers need to have made at least 17 appearances or pitched for at least 35.0 innings to qualify.
