Box Score

LAS VEGAS - Senior outfielder Nate Kaup went five-for-five and drove in eight runs to lead UNLV to a 19-5 victory over Southern Utah University Friday at Wilson Stadium.

The eight RBI are a career best for Kaup, who put the Rebels (2-2) on top early with a three-run home run in the first. He later added a double and lacked only a triple to hit for the cycle.

Sophomore lefty Ryan Olson earned his first victory of the year, allowing just three earned runs over five and two-thirds innings.

Senior third baseman Tony DeMarco also enjoyed a big day at the plate, going three-for-five with a home run, a double, two RBI and five runs scored.

UNLV led 6-0 before giving the Thunderbirds (0-1) their first run in the top of the third. The Rebels answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the inning, and managed to score at least one run in every inning of the game except the fifth.

The Rebels will conclude their two-game series with Southern Utah on Saturday in a 1:05 p.m. game at Wilson Stadium. The game will be broadcast in the Las Vegas area on KSHP AM 1400, with Scott Robbs and Nate Yeskie calling the action.
