UNLV Announces Men's Hoops Schedule

2000-01 UNLV men's basketball schedule

Aug. 2, 2000

LAS VEGAS - A total of 29 games, two in-season tournaments, six national television appearances and possible matchups with as many as seven teams that participated in last year's NCAA Tournament highlight the 2000-01 UNLV men's basketball schedule, announced by the athletics department Wednesday.

As many as nine other games could be televised back to Las Vegas. The school plans to air all of its road games again in 2000-01, with either SportsWest or ESPN Regional at UNLV producing those games.

The Runnin' Rebels will play 10 of their first 15 games at home in the Thomas & Mack Center, including a battle with Cincinnati, which will be aired on ESPN, and a matchup vs. Pepperdine, an NCAA Tournament participant last season.

Four other tourney teams are included in the eight-team field at the Maui Invitational, played Nov. 20-22. UNLV will compete against Arizona, Chaminade, Connecticut, Dayton, Illinois, Louisville and Maryland for the title at one of the top in-season tournaments in the country.

The Las Vegas Showdown returns to the valley in December, with Oregon, Auburn and Cincinnati to play in the Mack.

The Mountain West Conference slate features at least seven televised games, including UNLV's game at Utah, which will be shown on ABC. The rematch in February in Las Vegas will be aired by nationally by ESPN, as well as games against New Mexico, BYU and Wyoming.

And once again, the Thomas and Mack Center will serve as host for the Mountain West Conference Tournament, set to begin on Thursday, March 8, 2001.
