LAS VEGAS - The UNLV men's soccer team tied Notre Dame in the final round of the UNLV FILA/Snickers Rebel Classic on Sunday, 0-0. That improves the Rebels' shutout streak at home to three games, dating back to Oct. 31, 1999 with a 1-0 victory over San Diego State.

Notre Dame dominated the early part of the game with six shots in the first half. But it was UNLV's defense that kept the Irish from capitalizing in the first period of play.

Later on in the first half, the Rebels gained some momentum on a couple of cautions fouls on the Irish. The Rebels fired seven shots for the period including two shots from sophomores Tuomas Talvio and Ryan Cariss, both just missing the corner post.

The second half featured more great defense from both teams. Sophomore-transfer Scott Winstead made a diving save from Irish freshman Justin Detter to keep the game knotted at zero. Later in the half, Winstead made a leaping catch on a free-kick by the Irish. Notre Dame got a team save from sophomore Justin Ratcliffe after the keeper got tangled up with two UNLV players.

Neither team managed much offense in the overtime periods, with each team tallying only six shots in both overtimes.

The Rebels will host the Coors Classic next Friday and Sunday. The Rebels begin play at 7:00 against Loyola Marymount.
