Baseball Radio Schedule Announced

Oct. 17, 2001

LAS VEGAS - KSHP AM1400 has announced its 2002 UNLV baseball radio schedule. The team of Tim Neverett, Scott Robbs and Dick Williams will handle broadcast duties for the coming season.

The 2002 season will be the fifth straight that UNLV baseball has been broadcast on AM radio and marks the fourth straight year that game broadcasts will be available on the internet through UNLV's athletic department website at www.unlvrebels.com.

Tim Neverett, one of the most familiar broadcasters in Las Vegas sports, makes his Rebel baseball play-by-play debut in 2002. Neverett also handles radio play-by-play duties for UNLV football and serves as the co-host of the weekly "John Robinson Radio Show".

Named the 2000 Nevada Sportscaster of the Year by the National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters, Neverett most recently was the voice of the Las Vegas Bandits for two years and served as director of broadcasting and communications for the former International Basketball League franchise.

Neverett previously did play-by-play for the International Hockey League's Las Vegas Thunder (1994-99) and was named the IHL Broadcaster of the Year in 1998-99. He also announced for the Las Vegas Sting of the Arena Football League and the Las Vegas Dustdevils of the Continental Indoor Soccer League for two seasons (1993-94). A longtime member of the broadcast team for Las Vegas AAA baseball, Neverett also was a television anchor for the "High School Football Game of the Week" on Cox Communications.

Scott Robbs returns for his fifth season with the Rebel baseball broadcast team. He served as the public address announcer for UNLV baseball for five years (1994-1998), as well as announcing UNLV women's volleyball and covering the in-house P.A. for UNLV football. Robbs has been the voice of high school football's "Game of the Week" since 1998. He also broadcast UNLV baseball's 1996 NCAA South II Regional Tournament games in Baton Rouge, LA.

Robbs worked from 1990-1992 at KGU Radio in Honolulu doing play-by-play for Hawaii women's basketball, softball and volleyball. He continues to call women's volleyball road games for the University of Hawaii.

Former Major League Baseball manager Dick Williams will also handle broadcast duties for selected games. Williams managed from 1967-1988, leading the Oakland Athletics to back-to-back World Series victories in 1972 and 1973. He took the Boston Red Sox from last place to first and to the World Series with the "Impossible Dream" team of 1967. He also won a league championship with the San Diego Padres in 1984. He has a 21-year managing record of 1571-1451 (.520).

Williams also played from 1951-1964, beginning his career with the Brooklyn Dodgers and finishing with the Boston Red Sox. In 13 seasons, Williams finished with a .260 career batting average, 70 homeruns, 157 doubles and 331 RBIs.
