LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team defeated conference rival New Mexico 3-1 (30-20, 26-30, 30-20, 30-20) at the Cox Pavilion on Saturday night.
The Rebels improve to 7-9 overall, 4-5 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos fall to 3-15 overall, 1-8 in the league.
Blair Wilkes led the Rebel attack with 14 kills and a .462 attack percentage (14-2-26). She also finished with three blocks.
Sheila Ocasio-Clemente picked up her second double-double of the season, finishing with 11 blocks and 11 kills with a .364 (11-3-22) attack percentage.
Ocasio-Clemente, who leads the nation in blocks per game, has accumulated 21 blocks in the last two matches.
Patricia Assuncao added 12 kills and five service aces in the win, while Leiana Oswald finished with ten kills and four blocks.
Michelle Johnson made big contributions in four columns, finishing with nine kills, eight blocks, nine digs and five assists for the match.
Nina Franchini led the team's defensive effort with 13 digs.
Nicki King finished with eight digs as well as 40 assists at the setter spot.
The Lobos were led by Anna Reines and Malena Thompson. Reines led New Mexico with 12 kills, while Malena Thompson picked up a double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs.
New Mexico setter Kelly Griffin finished with 32 assists, seven kills and nine digs.
UNLV hits the road next weekend for a pair of conference matches against Colorado State on Oct. 26 and Wyoming on Oct. 27.
