LAS VEGAS - After holding a 12-point lead in the first half, the UNLV women's basketball team were edged by the NWBL Elite, 79-74, in its final exhibition game of the 2001-02 season Sunday evening at the Cox Pavilion.

The Lady Rebels went into halftime with a one-point lead, 41-40, but the NWBL would jump out in-front for most of the second half. A 3-pointer by senior Erin Johansson (Enumclaw, Wash.) put UNLV back into the lead at the 14:39 minute mark and for four more possessions, but it was all the NWBL for the rest of the way as the Elite drained six 3-pointers thereafter.

In the last six minutes of regulation, senior guard Kinesha Davis (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) came off the bench and racked up six points, as the Lady Rebels tried to reduce the deficit and make a comeback.

Senior forward Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) led all Lady Rebel scorers with 27 points and nine rebounds. Junior Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) had 15 points, while junior Dishawn McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) added 11.

Former Louisiana Tech and current WNBA Portland Fire guard Tamicha Jackson had 29 points for the NWBL Elite, a team comprised of former collegiate stars and current professional players.

Jackson's scoring contributed to the NWBL shooting 63.6 percent from the field to UNLV's 33.3 percent in the second half. The exhibition team last defeated Boise State on Nov. 7.

The Lady Rebels officially open the 2001-02 season on Friday, Nov. 16, hosting Cal State Fullerton at the new, state-of-the-art Cox Pavilion. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m.
