Box Score
LAS VEGAS - Junior guard Constance Jinks poured in a season-high 29 points as the UNLV women's basketball team handed Sacramento State a 58-point blowout, 92-34, in the second game of the 2001 Cox Communications / Lady Rebel Shootout Saturday night at the Cox Pavilion.
A native of Chicago, Ill., Jinks turned in her second high-scoring game of her UNLV career and was one-of-three Lady Rebels to score in double figures. Senior All-American forward Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) registered 19 points, while sophomore Petra Gl?ser (Amtsberg, Germany) had 12.
Junior transfer Julia Gray (Riverside, Calif.), who formerly led the Pac-10 Conference in steals while a guard at Washington, chipped in five points and four steals.
UNLV carried the lead for nearly the entire game with Sacramento State completing only 27.1 percent of its shots. With 3:26 remaining in regulation, the Hornets would get into their first back-to-back scoring rhythm of the game. Jinks, however, would feed a behind-the-back pass on the next fast break to sophomore Padra Strong (Fayetteville, N.C.), to keep the 50-point lead intact for the Lady Rebels in the final minutes.
Junior guard Kendra Yancey led the Hornets with 10 points and one steal. UNLV improves to 3-0 overall, while Sacramento State falls to 0-4.
The Lady Rebels will defend their Lady Rebel Shootout title as they face Tennessee Tech (2-1) in the championship game tomorrow at 4:30 p.m. Seton Hall (2-1) and Sacramento State precede that game at 2 p.m. in the consolation match of the two-day holiday tournament in Las Vegas.
FR?HLICH vs. THOMAS WATCH: Senior WBCA/Kodak All-American finalist Linda Fr?hlich is on her way to break the UNLV all-time scoring record of 1,892 points held by former All-American standout Misty Thomas (1982-86). With her 19 points tonight, Fr?hlich (1,815 career points) has 78 points to go.
