LAS VEGAS - Jared Johnson, from Cimarron Memorial High School in Las Vegas, has signed a national letter of intent to join the UNLV baseball team for the 2003 season.
"We are very excited to add Jared to our fall class," said UNLV head coach Jim Schlossnagle. "He really performed well toward the end of the fall and we feel like he will make an immediate impact in our program. It's always exciting to get a great local player from a good program and one that is such an outstanding student."
Johnson is right-handed pitcher who anchored the Cimarron Memorial staff as a junior. He compiled a 7-1 record in 65 innings with over 90 strikeouts.
"Jared is a tremendous athlete with a good arm," said UNLV assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Buddy Gouldsmith. "Jared's athleticism and competitiveness make him a valuable asset to our program. He throws three pitches for strikes and possesses excellent physical makeup. Jared is a talented player and a top-notch student. We are extremely excited about him joining what we feel is a great class."
Johnson plays at Cimarron Memorial with fellow UNLV signees Brad Thompson and Matt Wagner. He also teamed with Jake Vose, who will join the Rebel squad from CCSN, at Cimarron Memorial.
