NCAA Hears UNLV's Appeal

Feb. 7, 2001

LAS VEGAS - UNLV representatives today made an appeal before the NCAA Infractions Appeals Committee in Chicago to overturn the NCAA Infractions Committee's ruling that the university's men's basketball team be banned from postseason play this year.

During the three-hour hearing, University President Dr. Carol C. Harter argued that the postseason ban posed an unfair hardship on existing basketball team members who had no role in the original infractions case.

"I feel we presented a compelling case before the committee and I do hope they give us very serious consideration on this matter," Dr. Harter said. "Regardless of what the ultimate ruling is, I think it was important to seek this re-hearing on behalf of Coach Good and our current players."

Dr. Harter was accompanied at the hearing by Faculty Athletics Representative Dr. Myrlene LaMancusa, Athletics Director Charles Cavagnaro and Senior Associate Athletics Director Jerry Koloskie. The university was represented by Mike Glazier of the Kansas City law firm of Bond, Schoeneck & King.

The NCAA is expected to rule on the matter before the start of the Mountain West Conference Tournament.
