San Diego State Blanks Rebel Baseball

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team struggled offensively against San Diego State, managing only four hits in an 11-0 loss on Friday night at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

With the loss, the Rebels move to 11-13 overall, 3-1 in MWC play. The Aztecs improve to 12-9 overall, 2-2 in MWC play.

UNLV's Courtney Hall (4-3) picked up the loss, pitching 4.1 innings and giving up seven runs on nine hits. Donnie Watts provided middle relief, pitching 2.2 innings to give up two runs on five hits. Brad Maloff finished the game giving up two runs on three hits with four strikeouts.

SDSU's John Skinner (1-0) earned the win. He pitched 7.2 innings with only two hits, no walks and ten strikeouts. Chris Dunwell pitched the opening 1.1 innings for the Aztecs. He gave up two hits with three strikeouts, but left the game after being hit by a Tony Schuler line drive up the middle.

Brent Johnson finished with two of UNLV's four hits. Garett Shitanishi and Schuler added one hit each.

Chad Redfern led the Aztecs, hitting 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored.

UNLV and SDSU play the second of the three-game series on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
