SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The UNLV baseball team dropped an 8-2 decision to Utah in Salt Lake City on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 11-16 on the season, 3-4 in the Mountain West Conference. Utah improves to 15-11 overall, 4-3 in league play.
Courtney Hall (4-4) picked up the loss for the Rebels. He pitched six innings, giving up six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Brad Maloff finished the final two innings with two runs on three hits.
Ryan Bailey (5-2) earned the win, pitching a complete game for the Utes. He gave up both UNLV runs on six hits with five strikeouts.
Garett Shitanishi led the Rebels offensively, finishing 2-for-4 with one run scored. David Trujillo extended his hitting streak to three games, going 1-for-4 with one RBI. Trent Kitsch, Brent Johnson and Joe Jacobitz also managed a single hit each in the game.
Chris Shelton, who finished a single away from hitting for the cycle, led the Utah attack. He ended the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored.
UNLV and Utah play the second game of the three-game set on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. PST.
