SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The UNLV baseball team snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-5 victory at Utah on Saturday. With the win, the Rebels improve to 12-16 overall, 4-4 in the Mountain West Conference. The Utes fall to 15-12, 4-4 in league play.
UNLV's Ryan Olson (1-1) picked up the win in his third appearance of the season. He pitched six innings, giving up four runs on five hits with four strikeouts. Jared Bonnell finished the final three innings to earn his first save of the season. He gave up one run on three hits with two strikeouts.
Utah's Travis Palmer earned the loss, giving up five runs in seven innings of work.
David Trujillo extended his team-leading hitting streak to four games with 1-for-5 effort. He also drove in one run.
Garett Shitanishi finished the day 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Trent Kitsch went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored, while Joe Jacobitz also finished with a pair of hits, going 2-for-4.
John Cruz and Ryan Ruiz each added a single hit.
Adam Castleton led Utah, going 2-for-4 with one run scored.
UNLV and Utah wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. The Rebels return home on Wednesday to face UC-Riverside at 5:00 p.m.
