Baseball Defeats BYU On Friday

LAS VEGAS - Senior Ryan Olson pitched a complete game win as UNLV picked up a 2-1 victory over BYU on Friday night. With the win, the Rebels improve to 14-18 overall, 5-6 in Mountain West Conference play. BYU falls to 15-14 overall, 6-5 in league play.

Olson (2-1) gave up only one run on nine hits with four strikeouts in his best effort of the season.

BYU's Jeff Stearman (1-4) earned the loss. He gave up two runs on five hits with eleven strikeouts in 7.2 innings of work. Stearman was hitless through 4.1 innings before giving up the runs. Justin Su'a finished the final 0.2 innings with one strikeout.

UNLV's Joe Jacobitz extended his team-leading hitting streak to eight games with a two-run homerun, his fourth of the season. He finished the day 2-for-4.

Jason Reuss, Trent Kitsch, Ryan Ruiz and Brad Beasley all managed a single hit each.

UNLV and BYU wrap up the three game series at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday.
