Baseball Falls To BYU On Saturday

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 9-5 decision to BYU on Saturday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. With the loss, UNLV falls to 14-19 overall, 5-7 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cougars improve to 15-14, 7-5 in league play.

UNLV used seven pitchers in the nine-inning contest. Starter Courtney Hall (4-5) picked up the loss. He pitched two innings, giving up five runs on six hits with two strikeouts. Giovanni Pupo, Ben Scheinbaum, C.J. Martin, Doug Thornton, Chad Harris and Joe Maruffi also saw action.

BYU's Jeff Stone (1-3) earned the win, his first of the season. He pitched six innings, giving up four runs on eight hits with eight strikeouts.

Rebel David Trujillo extended his team-leading hitting streak to nine games with a 1-for-5 effort.

Brent Johnson led the Rebels offensively, finishing 3-for-4 with one run scored. Brad Beasley went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Joe Jacobitz, Trent Kitsch, Ryan Ruiz and Dan Price all managed a single hit each.

UNLV begins a ten-game road trip beginning at New Mexico on Friday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. The Rebels return to Wilson Field on Friday, April 27 for a three-game series with Utah.
