Baseball Falls To San Diego State In Ninth

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 2-1 pitchers' dual at San Diego State on Friday. The loss drops the Rebels to 15-22 overall, 6-10 in the Mountain West Conference. The Aztecs improve to 22-15, 11-5 in league play.

Tied at 1-1 in the bottom of the ninth, San Diego State's Tabor Lee hit a double down the left side, setting the stage for Sean Price's game-winning single to the second baseman. It is the tenth time this season that San Diego State has won a game on the final at bat.

Ryan Olson (2-3) pitched a complete game in the loss. He gave up two earned runs on ten hits with six strikeouts. San Diego State's Marcos Mendoza (4-4) also pitched a complete game, giving up one unearned run on five hits with 12 strikeouts.

UNLV's David Trujillo went 1-for-4, extending his team-leading hitting streak to 13 games. He doubled to center field, scoring John Cruz for the team's only run. Cruz, who finished the day 2-for-4, reached on a bunt and advanced to second on a throwing error by the catcher.

Brent Johnson and Garett Shitanishi each finished the game 1-for-4 from the plate.

UNLV and San Diego State play the second game of the three-game series on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. PST. Saturday's and Sunday's games will be broadcast on KSHP 1400 AM and will be available online at www.unlvrebels.com.
