Hall Rescues Baseball From San Diego State Sweep

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - UNLV's Courtney Hall picked up his sixth win of the season, pitching the Rebels to a 6-3 victory over San Diego State on Sunday. With the win, UNLV improves to 16-23 overall, 7-11 in the Mountain West Conference. SDSU falls to 23-16, 12-6 in league play.

Hall (6-5) pitched 6.2 innings, giving up three runs on seven hits with a season-high ten strikeouts. Joe Maruffi, who pitched the final 1.2 innings, picked the save. Maruffi gave up only one hit to the final six batters he faced. Ben Scheinbaum also pitched two-thirds of an inning with one hit and a walk.

SDSU's John Skinner (2-2) picked up the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits with six strikeouts.

Joe Jacobitz led the Rebels offensively, finishing 4-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. David Trujillo went 2-for-4, extending his hitting streak to 14 games. Ryan Ruiz finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Garett Shitanishi and Trent Kitsch each added a single hit.

Sean Pierce led the Aztecs going 3-for-5 with one RBI.

UNLV continues its road swing next weekend with a three-game series at Air Force. First pitch is scheduled for Friday, April 20 at 1:00 p.m. PST.
