COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 19-10 decision to Air Force on Friday to open a three-game Mountain West Conference series. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 16-24 overall, 7-12 in the MWC. The Falcons improve to 22-22 overall, 7-12 in league play.
Starter Ryan Olson (2-4) picked up the loss for UNLV. In two innings of work, Olson gave up ten runs on eight hits with no strikeouts. Ben Scheinbaum pitched 1.1 innings with six runs on seven hits and two strikeouts. Donnie Watts pitched 3.2 innings with three runs on five hits and three strikeouts. Brad Maloff finished the game, striking out all three batters he faced.
Air Force's Michael Tufte (8-5) earned the win. He pitched eight innings, giving up ten runs on 12 hits with nine strikeouts.
Trent Kitsch led the Rebels offensively with a pair of home runs in the game, bringing his season total to eleven. He finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.
David Trujillo extended his conference-leading hitting streak to 15 games with a 1-for-5 outing.
Joe Jacobitz finished the day 3-for-5 with three runs scored. Brent Johnson went 3-for-5 with one RBI and two runs scored. Brad Hertel finished 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Garett Shitanishi and Brad Beasley also added a single hit each. Beasley's hit was a home run, his fifth of the season.
Air Force was led by Tony Stockley, who finished the day 5-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Brad Bashore drove in five runs and scored three times in his 3-for-5 outing.
UNLV and Air Force play the second game of the three-game series on Saturday at 11:00 a.m. PST.
