Baseball Wins 11-10 Nailbiter Over Utah

LAS VEGAS - In a near reversal of Friday's 12-11 come-from-behind win over Utah, UNLV managed to hold on for an 11-10 victory over the Utes on Saturday night. The Rebels took an 11-2 lead through five innings before giving up seven runs in the sixth and a single run in the seventh. Closer Joe Maruffi came in with a one-run lead and bases loaded in the eighth to earn his fourth save of the season.

With the win, UNLV improves to 20-25 overall, 11-12 in the Mountain West Conference. Utah falls to 21-23 overall, 10-13 in league play.

Starter Jared Bonnell (4-4) earned the win for the Rebels. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits with four strikeouts. Ben Scheinbaum, Doug Thornton and Chad Harris also saw action on the mound. Maruffi gave up only one hit with one strikeout in his two-inning performance.

Utah's Jason Wylie (2-3) picked up the loss. He pitched two innings and gave up nine runs on ten hits with two strikeouts.

First baseman David Trujillo finished the game 3-for-4 with one RBI and two runs scored. The three-hit performance extends Trujillo's hitting streak to 20 games.

Trent Kitsch hit his third home run of the series and 14th of the season, finishing the game 2-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Joe Jacobitz and Brent Johnson both went 3-for-5 on the day. John Cruz added a pair of hits (2-for-3), while Jason Reuss and Brad Beasley managed a single hit each.

UNLV and Utah wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
