Baseball Falls To Utah On Sunday

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team played catch-up most of the game, but a seven-run ninth inning sealed the 15-6 win for Utah on Sunday afternoon. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 20-26 overall, 11-13 in Mountain West Conference play. The Utes improve to 22-23 overall, 11-13 in league play.

Starter Courtney Hall (7-6) picked up the loss for the Rebels. He pitched 6.2 innings, giving up six runs on eight hits with two strikeouts. Robbie Van pitched 0.1 innings, giving up two runs on three hits. Brad Maloff pitched one inning, giving up four runs on two hits with one strikeout. Chad Harris pitched the final inning, giving up three runs on three hits with two strikeouts.

Utah's Ryan Bailey (7-3) earned the win. He pitched seven innings, giving up five runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

First baseman David Trujillo extending his conference-leading hitting streak to 21 games with a 3-for-4 performance on Sunday. He also drove in four runs and scored twice.

Brent Johnson went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run scored. Garett Shitanishi finished 2-for-5 with one run scored. Joe Jacobitz, Trent Kitsch and George Fletcher all managed a single hit each.

Right fielder Bret Pannier led the Utes, going 4-for-5 with one RBI and three runs scored. Shortstop Tommy Maestas also swung the bat well, going 3-for-4 with four RBIs and two runs scored.

UNLV travels to Reno for a Tuesday evening game with the Wolfpack beginning at 7:00 p.m. The Rebels return to Earl E. Wilson Stadium this weekend for a three-game series with New Mexico to close out the home portion of the schedule.
