Baseball Falls To Nevada, Reno On Tuesday

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team blew a five-run lead in the seventh inning to fall to Nevada, Reno 10-9. The loss drops the Rebels to 20-27 on the season. The Wolfpack improve to 26-23.

Robbie Van pitched a solid seven innings for the Rebels. He gave up four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts. Brad Maloff pitched 0.1 innings and gave up three runs to start the Wolfpack rally. Chad Harris relieved Maloff, but faced only one batter and gave up a hit.

Joe Maruffi (0-1), the savior of Saturday's win over Utah, pitched the final 1.1 innings, giving up three runs on three hits, including the game-winning two-run home run.

UNR's Jason Mackintosh (6-6) picked up the win, pitching 1.2 innings and giving up only two hits.

John Cruz led the Rebel attack, going 4-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored. He hit three doubles on day, placing him in tie for second in the UNLV record books for the most doubles hit in a single game. Kevin Eberwein hit four in a game against Southern Illinois in 1996.

David Trujillo went 2-for-5 on the day, extending his conference-leading hitting streak to 22 games.

Garett Shitanishi, Joe Jacobitz and Brad Beasley each added a pair of hits in the game.

Nevada, Reno was led by third baseman Mike Gillies who finished the day 3-for-5 with two RBIs and one run scored.

UNLV returns to Earl E. Wilson Stadium this weekend for a three-game series with New Mexico. Friday's game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m.
