Kambala Continues To Showcase Skills At 2001 Nike Desert Classic

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Runnin' Rebel Kaspars Kambala and the Desert Classic Central team moved to 2-0 with a 83-81 victory over the Desert Classic Atlantic team at the 2001 Nike Desert Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

In his first start of the tournament, Kambala played 18 minutes and scored four points on 2-of-9 shooting. He also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds.

The Nike Desert Classic is a pre-draft tournament, allowing college seniors to showcase their skills for NBA scouts and general managers.

Kambala is joined on the Classic Central team by Damon Thornton (NC State), Isiah Victor (Tennessee), Eric Chenowith (Kansas), Earl Watson (UCLA), Kyle Hill (Eastern Illinois), Damone Brown (Syracuse), Casey Calvary (Gonzaga), Darren Kelly (Texas), Rashad Phillips (Detroit) and Brian Wardle (Marquette).

The 2001 Nike Desert Classic wraps up on Saturday with teams playing at either 6:00 p.m. or 8:00 p.m.
