Final Football Scrimmage A Success

Aug. 18, 2001

LAS VEGAS - No less than 12 UNLV players rushed at least once in the final scrimmage of preseason camp before a crowd of approximately 800 Saturday at Sam Boyd Stadium.

Senior tailback Jabari Johnson led all runners with 24 yards on just three carries while Joe Haro scored the only rushing touchdown on a two-yard burst.

Junior quarterback Jason Thomas saw limited time and completed three of five pass attempts for 35 yards and no interceptions and no scores.

Backup signal-caller Kurt Nantkes was 7-10 for 43 yards and threw for the only passing touchdown, a 12-yard score to tight end DeJhown Mandley.

Michael Johnson led all receivers with three catches for 32 yards.

Sophomore linebacker Ryan Claridge led the defense with seven total tackles, including three for a loss of eight yards.

The Rebels will not practice Sunday and then close out two-a-days on Monday and Tuesday. The season opens Aug. 30 at Arkansas in Little Rock.
