LAS VEGAS - Kevin Smoot has been named the volunteer assistant coach for the Rebel baseball program as announced by UNLV head coach Jim Schlossnagle. A former relief ace for Central Michigan University, Smoot joins the Rebel baseball program after serving two seasons as a volunteer assistant for the Central Michigan University baseball program.

"Kevin is a great addition to our staff," said Schlossnagle. "He comes to us from a successful program and has a good reputation nationally for his energy, work ethic and knowledge of the game. UNLV fans should feel fortunate that he chose to join us."

The left-handed Smoot pitched four years for Central Michigan, posting a career mark of 5-7 with an ERA of 5.19 and four saves. He was 0-2 with two saves and an ERA of 2.45 in 1999.
