Volleyball Falls To Wyoming In Three

Sept. 28, 2001

LAS VEGAS - UNLV volleyball fell to Wyoming in three games (34-32, 30-20, 30-18) on Friday night. The Rebels were out-hit in the match .337 to .155.

The loss drops the Rebels to 5-4 overall, 2-1in Mountain West Conference play. The Cowgirls improve to 6-3 on the season, 1-0 in league play.

UNLV setters Maria Julia Goes and Nicki King were both out of the line-up with ankle injuries.

"We struggled a little with injuries this week and that hurts the continuity of the team," said UNLV head coach Deitre Collins. "Without continuity, no one knows who to look to. I thought Amy (Lewis) did a good job filling in at the setter spot and Blair (Wilkes) played exceptionally well. We just struggled."

Blair Wilkes led the Rebel attack with 15 kills. She hit .737 (15-1-19) for the match with two digs and two block assists.

Amy Lewis, getting her first start at the setter position, finished the match with 32 assists, two kills and three digs.

Michelle Johnson knocked down seven kills with three digs. Sheila Ocasio-Clemente, who currently leads the nation in blocks, added four block assists and four kills.

Wyoming was led by Rachel Lau, who finished with 15 kills and four blocks.

UNLV returns to the Cox Pavilion on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. to take on conference rival and tenth ranked Colorado State.
