HONOLULU - The UNLV women's swimming and diving team defeated the University of Hawaii 163-114, while the men's team fell to both Hawaii (80-60) and sixth ranked University of Minnesota (94-45).
The Rebel women won 11 of 16 events en route to the 49-point victory. The team of Lindsey Whipple, Madalina Tin, Julie Unrau and Lorena Diaconescu began the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay. They won in a time of 3:54.63.
Tamee Ebert, Alyson Noble and Tera Sherard went 1-2-3 in the 1000 free, with Ebert winning in 10:21.22. The Rebles also took the top three spots in the 100 freestyle with Alyson Noble taking first followed by Criselda Dizon and Dana Penn.
Lorena Diaconescu followed her medley relay win with first place finishes in the 50 free (24.11), 200 free (1:52.41) and 500 free (4:56.96).
Lindsey Whipple won the 100 back in 1:00.22 with Jessica Meager and Kadee Whipple taking third and fourth place respectively.
Julie Unrau and Dana Penn finished 1-2 in the 200 fly. Unrau won in a time of 2:07.78.
UNLV dominated the 200 back by capturing the top four spots. Lindsey Whipple finished first, followed by Tamee Ebert, Kadee Whipple and Jessica Meager.
Julie Unrau, Hailey Nance and Criselda Dizon finished 1-2-3 in the 100 fly as well. Unrau won in a time of 59.17.
Freshman diver Jessica Field took third in both the 1 meter and 3 meter.
The women capped the meet with a first place finish in the 400 IM. The team of Madalina Tin, Alyson Noble, Lindsey Whipple and Criselda Dizon won in 3:34.51.
On the men's side, Andrew Livingston won the 200 fly in 1:47.09, beating Minnesota's Chad Krastins by nearly four seconds (1:47.09-1:50.57). Livingston's time is a NCAA-B time, just missing the automatic cut time of 1:46.12. He also took second in the 100 fly (49.41).
Michael Short took second in the 50 free in a time of 21.04. He also finished fourth in the 100 free (46.65).
Paul Valen finished second in the 400 IM, followed by Andrew Livingston in third and Kevin Williams in fourth.
Diver Lucas Richmond took third in the 3 meter and fourth in the 1 meter.
The team of Michael Short, Quincy Schmidt, Quinten Allen and Bjorn Eriksson took second in the 400 free relay to finish the meet.
UNLV will remain in Hawaii for another week as part of their winter training and will take on Hawaii again next Saturday. San Diego State's women's team will also compete.
