UNLV (4-7) looks to break a two-game losing streak and reach the five-victory mark for only the fourth time in the last 15 years when it closes its 2002 season at No. 16(AP)/13 Colorado State (10-2) Saturday ... The post-Thanksgiving finale marks the fourth-latest regular-season game in UNLV history ... The Rebels are 13-19-2 in regular-season finales, including 2-7 in their last nine, but have won their last two ... UNLV has won only two games on the road in the month of November since 1994 (at SDSU in 2000 and at AFA in 2001) and is 7-19 overall in the month in the last nine years ... Last week, UNLV enjoyed a bye while CSU, which has won six straight, wrapped up the MWC title by defeating New Mexico 22-14 and then accepted a bid to the AXA Liberty Bowl ... CSU is the only MWC school that UNLV head coach John Robinson has not defeated in his career ... The Rams, who have never been in the top 25 when facing the Rebels, are the highest ranked team to face UNLV since the Rebels opened the 1996 season at No. 2 Tennessee ... In its relatively brief history, UNLV has played 13 teams ranked in at least one of the two major polls at the time of the game, winning only once (at No. 8 BYU in 1981) ... The game will be broadcast live by SportsWest TV ... The Rebels are 2-0 on SportsWest this season and 8-4 all-time.
RAMS-REBELS NOTES
CSU leads the all-time series 6-3-1, including six straight as conference opponents in the Western Athletic Conference and MWC ... UNLV is looking for its first victory over the Rams since 1982, which came in Fort Collins ... The Rebels jumped out to a 3-0-1 lead over CSU while playing in the late 1970s and early '80s when UNLV first thought itself heading into the WAC, where the two schools finally did join each other from 1996-98... UNLV has two players on its roster from the state of Colorado -- junior kicker Dillon Pieffer of Colorado Springs and sophomore QB Kurt Nantkes of Aurora... CSU head coach Sonny Lubick once coached at nearby Beatty (Nev.) High School, which plays eight-man football.
