FULLERTON, Calif. - The UNLV baseball team lost 13-1 to No. 16 Cal State Fullerton on Sunday afternoon. The loss drops the Rebels to 4-5 on the season, while the Titans improve to 6-3.
UNLV starter Courtney Hall (0-1) picked up the loss despite giving the Rebels their best start of the three-game series with Fullerton. Hall gave up just one earned run off five hits in 3.0 innings of work.
UNLV's lone run came from a Jason Reuss home run to right field in the sixth.
Left fielder Eric Nielsen finished 2-for-4 in the contest. Tony Schuler and Garett Shitanishi each added a single hit.
The Titans' Jordan DeJong (2-0) pitched 5.0 innings, giving up just three hits and no runs for the win.
Left fielder Shane Costa led Fullerton offensively, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Titans Justin Smyres and Kyle Boyer each finished 3-for-4.
UNLV returns home to host Michigan State, Creighton and UC-Santa Barbara in the UNLV Tournament Feb. 22-24. The Rebels play Creighton at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22.
