FORT COLLINS, Colo. - UNLV junior forward Dalron Johnson was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Runnin' Rebels to a 2-1 record last week.
Johnson averaged 18.7 points and 5.7 rebounds in three games last week. He shot 45 percent from the field (18-of-40), 81 percent (18-of-22) from the free throw line and blocked six shots.
Johnson opened the week with 17 points and five rebounds, while shooting 5-of-10 from the floor and hitting 7-of-10 free throws in a crucial 72-64 home win over Utah last Monday.
In a non-conference contest Wednesday vs. Florida International, Johnson scored a team-high 22 points, grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots in the 83-77 victory. He hit 6-of-11 field goals, including 1-of-2 3-pointers, and went 9-for-10 from the charity stripe.
Johnson tallied 17 points and five boards in the 82-78 loss at Wyoming Saturday. He hit 7-of-19 shots from the field, while collecting three blocks and three steals in the game.
Johnson is currently tied for the scoring lead in the MWC, averaging 17.4 points per game. His 2.2 steals and 1.5 blocks per contest lead the conference, while his 5.4 rebounds per game ranks 10th.
This is Johnson's second MWC Player of the Week award this season.
