Baseball Super On Sunday

LAS VEGAS - UNLV's baseball team picked up a 10-5 win over Cal-Berkeley on Super Bowl Sunday at Earl E. Wilson Stadium. The win improves UNLV to 2-1 on the season, while Cal falls to 1-2.

Donnie Watts (1-0) earned the win for the Rebels in relief. He pitched 1.2 innings and gave up only one run. Starter David Seccombe pitched 4.2 innings, but needed one more out to qualify for the win. He gave up four runs on seven hits with four strikeouts.

Garett Shitanishi finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBIs and two runs scored. He hit the first home run of his career in the sixth inning, scoring three runs.

Tony Schuler also managed a pair of hits with two RBIs. David Trujillo, Jason Reuss and Brent Johnson added a single hit each. Reuss' hit was a triple that scored Trujillo in the sixth inning.

James Nepa scored twice and drove in a run despite not being credited with a hit.

Cal starter Kyle Crist earned the loss. He pitched 5.0 innings and gave up six runs in the second inning.

UNLV returns to the diamond on Friday, Feb. 8 for a three-game series with in-state rival Nevada, Reno. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
