Baseball Defeats George Washington In Tournament Play

LANCASTER, Calif. - The Rebel baseball team jumped out to an early 4-0 lead and parlayed it into a 6-3 victory over George Washington in the first game of the Clash of the Conferences Tournament in Lancaster, Calif.

The win moved the Rebels back to .500 on the season at 7-7. GW falls to 3-6.

Giovanni Pupo pitched the opening four innings, giving up three runs on seven hits before being relieved by Ben Scheinbaum.

Scheinbaum earned his first win of the season, pitching four scoreless innings. He gave up only three hits with one strikeout.

Jeremy Weinberg struck out the side in the final inning for his first save.

Brent Johnson led the Rebels, going 3-for-4 at the plate. Eric Nielsen, David Trujillo and Tony Schuler added a pair of hits each. Nielsen also finished with two RBIs.

UNLV continues tournament play on Saturday with an 11 a.m. game against Purdue.
