IRVINE, Calif. - The UNLV baseball team dropped a 7-3 decision to UC-Irvine in non-conference play on Tuesday night. With the loss, the Rebels fall to 11-16 on the season, while the Anteaters improve to 17-13.
Rebel starter David Seccombe picked up the loss and moved to 1-1 on the season. He pitched three innings, giving up five runs on six hits with three strikeouts. Four other pitchers threw effectively to finish the game, but the damage had already been done.
Giovanni Pupo threw two innings, giving up one run on two hits. Ben Scheinbaum and Jared Bonnell each pitched a hitless inning. Jeremy Weinberg gave up one run in the final innings on four hits.
Irvine's Glen Swanson earned the win and moved to 5-1 on the season. He pitched three shutout innings with three strikeouts.
Ryan Ruiz and Tony Schuler eached added a pair of hits. Ruiz finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and one run scored. Schuler went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Jason Reuss, who has struggled at the plate over the last few weeks, finished the game 2-for-4 with a double.
Brent Johnson, who entered the game with a 13-game hitting streak, went 0-for-2 with a pair of walks.
The Rebels return home for a three-game series with New Mexico beginning on Friday at 6:30 p.m.
