Lady Rebels Celebrated at Awards Reception

LAS VEGAS - NCAA Tournament highlights and team awards were part of the festivities Thursday night at the 2002 Lady Rebel Awards Reception held at Planet Hollywood Las Vegas.

UNLV women's basketball senior forward Linda Fr?hlich (Oldendorf, Germany) headlined the team award winners as the recipient of the Best All-Around Award, while junior guard Constance Jinks (Chicago, Ill.) received the Offensive Player Award. Fr?hlich led the Lady Rebels in scoring (20.5 ppg) and rebounding (10.4 rpg) for the fourth consecutive year with Jinks following behind as the team's second leading scorer (17.0 ppg) and top playmaker (117 assists).

Sophomore Padra Strong (Fayetteville, N.C.) was honored with the Most Improved Player Award, junior Julia Gray (Riverside, Calif.) with the Defensive Player Award and seniors Erin Johansson (Enumclaw, Wash.) and Kinesha Davis (Brooklyn Center, Minn.) sharing the Sixth Woman Award. Gray led the team in steals with 76 and Johansson was the Lady Rebels' top 3-point shooter with a .370 accuracy.

Junior Talisha Mitchell (Stockton, Calif.) received the Hustle Award, sophomore Petra Gl?ser (Amtsberg, Germany) the Versatility Award and freshman Sherry McCracklin (Hazel Crest, Ill.) the Rebounder (Attitude in the Paint) Award. McCracklin was the only rookie on the team to play in all 31 games of the season with six starts and averaged 4.3 rebounds per game.

All 13 members of the team received NCAA Team Awards for UNLV's eighth NCAA Tournament berth in school history and first appearance since 1994. The Lady Rebels finished the 2001-02 season at 23-8 overall.
