ALBUQUERQUE - New Mexico scored four runs in the seventh inning to snap a 7-7 tie to beat UNLV 11-7 Friday afternoon at Lobo Field. The victory ended UNM's five-game losing streak and stopped a skid which had seen the Lobos win just one of their last 12 conference games. New Mexico improved to 18-26 on the season, 7-12 in Mountain West Conference play. UNLV, which had won five of its last six, dropped to 22-23, 7-12 in league play.
Rebel starter Robbie Van gave up two early runs in the second inning but did not figure into the decision. He finished the game giving up five runs on five hits in 5.0 innings of work.
Reliever Jeremy Weinberg (1-4) gave up six runs in two innings for the loss. Donnie Watts shut out the Lobos in the final inning.
Kris Gross (3-0) is credited with the win. He gave up one run on one hit in 0.2 innings.
