Baseball Gets Offensive Win Over New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE - The UNLV baseball team rebounded from Friday's loss to New Mexico with a 23-13 victory on Saturday. The 23 runs scored by the Rebels on Saturday ties the season-high set against New Mexico in the second game of the series between the two teams in Las Vegas last month.

The win moves the Rebels back to .500 at 23-23, 8-12 in Mountain West Conference play. The Lobos fall to 18-27, 7-13 in league play.

The Rebels put on an offensive clinic, scoring in every inning except the first. David Trujillo, Ryan Ruiz and Derek Amundsen each hit a pair of homers in the contest. Trujillo has now hit five home runs in his last three games.

UNLV starter David Seccombe pitched 4.2 innings, giving up 10 runs on 13 hits. Only six of the 10 runs were earned. Chad Harris (3-0) earned the win. He shut down the Lobo offense, giving up only three hits and striking out two.

The loss went to New Mexico's Matt Bullen (1-5). He gave up six runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work.

Ruiz and Trujillo each finished the game with four hits. Ruiz went 4-for-5 with five RBIs and four runs scored, while Trujillo was 4-for-6 in the game with three RBIs and three runs scored.

Amundsen's two home runs gave him four RBIs in the contest. He finished the game 2-for-5.

Tony Schuler finished 3-for-6 with two RBIs and four runs scored. Joe Wickman also added three hits in the game, going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.

Brent Johnson, Garett Shitanishi and Robert VanKirk added a pair of hits each.

UNLV concludes the series with New Mexico on Sunday at 1 p.m. (MST) at Lobo Field.
