LAS VEGAS - UNLV starting pitcher Courtney Hall threw six strong innings in the Rebels 8-6 victory over Air Force on Saturday afternoon. Hall (4-5) gave up only three earned runs on four hits while striking out five.
With the win, the Rebels improve to 27-25, 12-14 in Mountain West Conference play. The Falcons fall to 25-24, 12-13 in league play.
Joe Maruffi struck out one batter in the final inning to earn his third save of the season. David Seccombe, Chad Harris and Jeremy Weinberg combined to pitch the seventh and eighth innings.
The Rebels scattered 10 hits in the game, with a pair going to both Joe Wickman and Eric Nielsen. Wickman was 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and Nielsen finished 2-for-4 with four RBIs.
Ryan Ruiz, Brent Johnson, David Trujillo, Garett Shitanishi, Tony Schuler and Robert VanKirk added a single hit each. Schuler also drove in two runs.
Air Force was led by shortstop Nelson Prouty who finished the game 2-for-3 with an RBI and one run scored.
UNLV and Air Force wrap up the three-game series on Sunday afternoon with first pitch set for 1 p.m.
