Bonnell Taken in 23rd Round of 2002 MLB Draft

LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior right-handed pitcher Jared Bonnell was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks with the 699th overall pick (23rd round) in the 2002 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft.

Bonnell joins senior right fielder Jason Reuss who was selected on Tuesday in the 11th round by the Houston Astros.

Bonnell went 4-5 this season in 17 appearances and 11 starts. He pitched 60.1 innings, striking out 41 batters.

UNLV has had at least one player selected in the Major League Baseball draft for the last 18 years. Bonnell is the second UNLV pitcher taken by the Diamondbacks. Toby Harris was selected in the 24th round of the 1999 draft.
