LAS VEGAS - UNLV outfielder Joe Wickman has been named to the 2002 Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American team as announced by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
Wickman, the MWC Freshman of the Year and First Team All-Mountain West Conference selection, posted a league-record .490 batting average in his debut with the Rebels. He also put together an 18-game hitting streak and notched the conference's best on-base percentage at .584.
Wickman is the sixth Freshman All-American selection in UNLV history, joining Ryan Hankins (1995), Kevin Eberwein (1996), Ryan Ludwick (1997), Ryan Hamill (1998) and Brent Johnson (2001).
