LAS VEGAS - UNLV quarterback Jason Thomas and running back/kick returner Dominique Dorsey are candidates for All-America honors, a major media organization announced Monday.
Thomas, a 6-4, 235-pound senior from Compton, Calif., is one of two Mountain West Conference quarterbacks to be named to the 2002 Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) All-America Watch List.
A consensus preseason All-MWC choice among the major preview magazines, Thomas was joined by Colorado State signal-caller Bradlee Van Pelt.
Dorsey, last season's MWC Freshman of the Year after setting a school record in kickoff returns with a 34.6-yard average, is one of 25 kick return specialists listed from across the nation. The 5-6, 165-pound native of Tulare, Calif., is the only MWC representative at the position, which includes both punt and kickoff returners.
The FWAA All-America Watch List was compiled by a nine-person committee representing the 60-year-old organization made up of journalists and broadcasters working throughout the nation.
