Ad Campaign Sees Celebs Supporting Rebels

Aug. 19, 2002

LAS VEGAS - In a push to make sure all UNLV fans have an opportunity to purchase tickets to the Wisconsin game as well as the entire 2002 home football season, the school kicked off the "Support Your Rebels" media campaign Monday.

To coincide with the release of 1,000 individual tickets to the public for the season opener on August 31 vs. the Badgers, the print campaign uses local celebrities and UNLV athletic figures to encourage Rebel fans to act now by asking, "I have my tickets, do you have yours?" Scheduled to be featured in the ads are Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman, actor Pat Morita, music entertainer Charo, Runnin' Rebel head coach Charlie Spoonhour and former Runnin' Rebel and current NBA star Stacey Augmon.

The ads will run in the Las Vegas Review-Journal and the Las Vegas Sun Monday through Friday of this week, as well as being displayed on the Thomas and Mack Center marquee located on the corner of Tropicana and Swenson avenues.

"We are thrilled to have these celebrities show their support for UNLV because we all want to see Rebel fans in the stands as part of a record crowd on August 31st when we kick off our season against the Badgers," UNLV Athletics Director of Marketing Melissa Meacham said. "Season tickets and single-game tickets to all of our six home games are still available and we are using this one-week campaign to tell the Las Vegas community just that. We are committed to making sure that Las Vegans have the opportunity to purchase season tickets over the next two weeks and for less than the price of two Wisconsin tickets ($70), they can see an entire season of Rebel Football ($65)."

The 1,000 tickets to the Wisconsin game may be purchased for $35 by calling 739-FANS, clicking on the web at unlvtickets.com, or visiting outlets at the Galleria at Sunset, Boulevard and Meadows malls, or at any Station Casinos or Fiesta property.

With the release of the tickets, approximately 2,500 season seats remain for sale. For an additional $30, fans can purchase the six-game season-ticket package. The other home games are vs. Big 12 Conference member Kansas, state-rival UNR, and Mountain West Conference foes New Mexico, Wyoming and Air Force.

Season tickets may be purchased only by calling 739-FANS.
