FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Former UNLV softball infielder Linda Garza has been named an assistant coach at the University of Arkansas for the 2003 season.
A four-year starter for the Rebels from 1998-2001, Garza spent the 2002 season as an undergraduate assistant coach at UNLV while completing the course requirements for her bachelor's degree in school health education.
"We're excited that Linda has joined our staff," said Dever-Boaz. "Her energy and enthusiasm are contagious and I'm confident she'll bring that to the field and to our players. Linda's strong skills, both offensively and defensively, are evident in her career numbers. Her challenge now is to pass on her knowledge to our team."
The Fresno, Calif., product started the final 155 games of her career at both second and third base. She hit .262 for her career with five homers and claimed All-Mountain West Conference honors as a third baseman in her senior season.
"Linda will succeed in coaching," UNLV head coach Shan McDonald said. "All of the things she does in life she does with passion and with a commitment that produces success. She loves the game an has been a student of the game for may years, even as a player."
