UNLV (1-3) concludes its 2002 non-conference schedule by hosting rival Nevada, Reno (2-2) Saturday in the 28th Battle for the Fremont Cannon sponsored by AT&T ... The game will be televised only in Reno on KRNV-TV (NBC) ... The Rebels, who lost two straight before enjoying their first bye week, return to Sam Boyd Stadium for the first time since September 7 while the Wolf Pack, which had a two-game winning streak snapped by Colorado State last week, plays on the road for the first time since August 31 ... UNLV looks to win its third straight over UNR for only the second time ever and first since winning four consecutive games in 1974-77 ... UNLV head coach John Robinson looks for his 200th career coaching victory (199-132-4 in 25 college and NFL seasons) ... Robinson is 2-1 all-time vs. UNR while Pack head coach Chris Tormey is 0-2 vs. the Rebels ... Including a 2-0 record vs. UNR, the Rebels are 3-0 vs. WAC teams since leaving the conference after the 1998 season ... The Wolf Pack will face its third Mountain West Conference team of the season this Saturday as UNR downed then-No. 24-ranked BYU on Sept. 14 before taking on the Rams last week. Against the seven teams other than UNLV that make up the four-year-old league, UNR holds a 10-19-3 all-time record ... The three teams that have defeated UNLV this fall currently stand a combined 11-3 ... Five of UNLV's 2002 opponents received votes in this week's coaches' poll: No. 15 Wisconsin, No. 22 CSU, No. 25 Air Force, OSU and BYU.
WOLF PACK vs. REBELS NOTES
UNR leads the series 15-12 overall, including 10 of last 13 ... The 27 meetings, which include 13 straight in the now-annual rivalry, are by far the most UNLV has had with any opponent ... The Wolf Pack's last trip to Sam Boyd Stadium saw the Rebels snap a five-game losing streak to UNR, 38-7 on Oct. 7, 2000 ... UNR is 6-7 in Las Vegas all-time ... After being outscored 197-85 in the five-game skid to the Pack, UNLV has won the points battle 65-19 the last two seasons ... While both schools have been members of both the Big West and Western Athletic conferences, the teams met each other only four times as league rivals (1992-95) ... UNLV has one player from the Reno area: senior linebacker Bill Cofer from McQueen HS ... UNR listed three Las Vegans on its preseason roster: junior LB Jesse Adarme (Valley HS), freshman DB Andre Rhodes (Cimarron-Memorial HS) and freshman LB Matt Geissler (Rancho HS).
