Volleyball Hosts Gameworks/UNLV Classic

LAS VEGAS - UNLV (2-1) will host the 2002 Gameworks/UNLV Volleyball Tournament from Sept 6-8 in the Cox Pavilion. Ball State, Texas Tech and California will join UNLV in the three-day competition.

Friday: Ball State vs. Texas Tech 5:00 p.m.
Friday: UNLV vs. California 7:30 p.m.

Saturday: Ball State vs. California 1:30 p.m.
Saturday: UNLV vs. Texas Tech 4:00 p.m.

Sunday: Ball State vs. UNLV 11:00 a.m.
Sunday: Texas Tech vs. California 1:30

The Rebels are without the services of blocking tandem Sheila Ocasio-Clemente and Michelle Johnson for the second week. Ocasio-Clemente is playing with the Puerto Rican National Team, while Michelle Johnson is rehabbing a shoulder injury and will likely redshirt the season.

UNLV won the St. Mary's Tournament last weekend with a 2-1 record and landed two players, Nicki King and Patricia Assuncao on the all tournament team. Assuncao was also named Co-MVP of the tournament.

The league's top two hitters belong to UNLV as Assuncao leads the MWC in hitting percentage at .568 and Christina Kirschner is second at .452.

At the conclusion of play on Sunday, a six-person all tournament team and MVP will be announced.
