LAS VEGAS - The UNLV baseball team avenged last year's loss to the alumni team with a 13-2 victory on Saturday afternoon. Junior David Seccombe threw five shutout innings.

Garett Shitanishi, Patrick Dobson and Ryan Ruiz each had three hits to pace a 17-hit attack. Dobson hit a solo home run to right field in the eigth inning to end the scoring for the day.

Former major league manager Bobby Valentine served as a celebrity coach for the Rebels and coached two innings at third base.

The exhibition marked the final tune-up for the 2003 Rebel squad, which opens its season on Friday, Jan. 31, at 2:00 p.m. against California at Berkeley.
