Safety Nets National Honor

Oct. 14, 2003

LAS VEGAS - UNLV junior safety Jamaal Brimmer is a member of College Football News Midseason All-America Team, which was announced Tuesday.

Brimmer also was listed as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Midseason as well as the 16th best player in nation, regardless of position, after the first six games of the season.

The 2002 MWC Defensive Player of the Year currently leads the Rebels with three interceptions, has 37 tackles, including a team-leading six for loss, two forced fumbles and one fumble recovery for a touchdown.

He received numerous honors as national player of the week after turning in a career-best performance in UNLV's Sept. 13 upset of Big Ten Conference power Wisconsin, which is currently ranked 12th in the nation.

The Las Vegas native is a member of the Watch List for both the Bronko Nagurski Trophy and the Jim Thorpe Award. He was a second-team preseason All-America selection this summer by Athlon, Phil Steele's and College Football News.
