Rebels Defeat Wyoming

LAS VEGAS - The UNLV volleyball team improved its home record to 7-1 with a 3-0 (30-21, 30-25, 30-19) victory over Wyoming on Thursday night at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Junior Nicki King became UNLV's all-time career assist leader with her 22nd assist off a Leiana Oswald kill. With 47 assists in the match, King has now tallied 2816 in her three-year career. Mari-de Boyer (1996-98) held the previous career assists record with 2790.

With the win, UNLV improves to 10-12, 3-6 in Mountain West Conference play. The Cowgirls fall to 14-11, 3-7 in league play.

Oswald led the Rebels offensively with 19 kills and a .581 (19-1-31) attack percentage.

Patricia Assuncao followed closely behind with 16 kills and a .500 (16-3-26) attack percentage. UNLV hit .448 (60-13-105) in the match, its best team attack percentage of the season.

Sheila Ocasio-Clemente added 11 kills and six blocks, while Nina Franchini led the Rebels with 12 digs.

UNLV hosts Colorado State at 6 p.m. on Saturday night in the Thomas & Mack Center.

Following the volleyball game, the UNLV men's basketball team will hold its first public showcase of the 2003-04 season. Admission is free to the event and the Runnin' Rebels will be available after the scrimmage to meet fans and sign autographs.
