UNLV Fall World Series Recap

Nov. 13, 2003

LAS VEGAS - Team Gray captured the final game of UNLV's annual Fall World Series with a 7-0 victory over Team Scarlet Sunday afternoon at Earl E. Wilson Stadium.

Team Scarlet won the series, however, 2-1.

"With the exception of game two, which was hampered by unearned runs, our pitching was solid," head coach Buddy Gouldsmith said. "Ryan Tabor gave Team Scarlet the edge with a quality start out of the gate. The combined efforts of Luca and Skogley in game three for Team Grey were special performances. As solid as the pitching was, I thought we continued to swing the bats well as we have all fall. The series provided a competitive environment and I am as excited as I have ever been about this team and the upcoming season."

In game three, sophomore All-American Matt Luca combined with freshman Kevin Skogley to throw a no-hitter for Team Gray.

Team Gray was led at the plate by freshman Ryan Kowalski who had a triple and single with three runs scored. Senior first baseman Eddie Gill had two doubles with two runs scored, while sophomore Ryan Bird and freshman Stephen Erkel had two doubles and two RBI's respectively.
