LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's basketball team (7-2) comes off its Christmas break to host Mississippi State (5-4) on Sunday at 3 pm in the Cox Pavilion in an important non-conference matchup for the Lady Rebels . A win against one of the top teams in the SEC can give UNLV more momentum as they prepare for the always difficult Mountain West Conference schedule starting up in January.
The Lady Rebels will look to defend their home court, something they have been very successful at under head coach Regina Miller. UNLV is 5-0 at home this season, and 23-3 in the Cox Pavilion over the last three seasons. Meanwhile, Mississippi State has yet to win on the road this season, losing all three of their games on an opponents? court.
The Lady Rebels have been on a tear offensively this season, averaging 73.1 points per game, which leads the Mountain West Conference, and are a perfect 7-0 when they score 70 or more points this season.
UNLV will look to continue its strong play on the boards and on defense. The Lady Rebels are outrebounding their opponents by 10.3 rebounds per contest which ranks them fifth in the country, and they also lead the Mountain West Conference in steals at 11.1 per game (30th in the nation).
