Las Vegas Native Signs With Lady Rebels

Dec. 4, 2003

LAS VEGAS - Las Vegas native Sequoia Holmes has signed a National Letter of Intent to play for the UNLV Women's Basketball team starting in the fall of 2004-05, head coach Regina Miller has announced.

Holmes, a 6-1 forward, is a three-sport standout at Mojave High. A two-time all-state honoree, she averaged 21 points and seven rebounds as a junior last year. Holmes has also earned all-conference honors twice, and received team MVP honors three times. She has shined on the track, as she was the 100m and long jump state champion last year, and helped Mojave to three straight runner-up finishes at the state championships meet while earning the team's MVP honor. Holmes was named co-MVP of the volleyball team as well, and is a member of the Honors Program at Mojave.

"Sequoia is a tremendous athlete, and we feel she's a diamond in the rough who has a huge upside to her potential," said Miller. "She will fit perfectly into the system we have here, and will be a great compliment to the Lady Rebels. I'm also glad that we were able to sign a local athlete. I feel that its important for us to go after and keep the local talent here in Las Vegas."

UNLV, currently 3-1 on the season, next takes to the road for an intrastate contest at Nevada, Reno, on Saturday, Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
