Coming off an impressive weekend performance in which it posted wins over San Diego and Richmond to win the Lady Rebel Shootout, the UNLV women's basketball team goes back on the road for Saturday night's intra-state matchup at Nevada, Reno at 7 pm. UNLV (3-1) is looking for its fourth straight win in the series, though the Wolfpack (0-4) have won four of the last five meetings between the two in Reno.
Last year's meeting between the two schools was a turning point for the Wolfpack. UNR had entered the game with a 7-2 record and boasting a five-game win streak, but fell to the Lady Rebels 60-55 in Las Vegas on Dec. 29. That loss was the beginning of an 11-game losing streak for Nevada, Reno, and they would finish the season at 10-19. Including this year's 0-4 record under first year head coach Kim Gervasoni, the Wolfpack have lost 21 of their last 24 games dating back to last year's meeting.
UNLV will look to continue its strong play on the boards and on defense tonight. The Lady Rebels are outrebounding their opponents by 16.0 rebounds per contest through four games played in 2003-04, and are averaging 10.25 steals per game, which is second best in the Mountain West Conference. By comparison, UNR has both a negative rebounding margin (-3.7) and turnover margin (-3.5) through its first four games.
